Murdock, FL – The Punta Gorda MSA which encompasses all of Charlotte County is gaining name recognition as a great place to both live and work. Recently garnering the number two spot among 938 markets surveyed in the entire United States, regardless of size, it is once again recognized as one of the hottest retirement spots in the country; at the same time, earning the top ranking within the ‘Florida’ category in a recent study done by BizJournals. (Bizjournals is the online media division of American City Business Journals, the nation's largest publisher of metropolitan business newspapers.)

Comparing BizJournals' list with that of the Milken Institute’s 2005 Best Performing Cities/Metropolitan Areas, only 19 of the top 100 areas named in the BizJournals list also made it to the Milken Institute’s list.

Charlotte County ranked 22nd in the Milken Institute 2005 study. Among those sharing this accolade with Charlotte County are: Prescott, AZ; Yuma, AZ; Barnstable Town, MA; Vero Beach, FL in the Small City Category and Naples, FL; Cape Coral, FL; Sarasota, FL in the Large City Category.

One could infer Charlotte County is not only keeping its unique ‘southern gem’ qualities, but it is also successfully building up its economic competitiveness to achieve a more balanced economy, and consequently, a more balanced and fulfilling life for its residents.

In fact, it is one of two top retirement places named in the BizJournals study which are also named in the top quality-of-life-destinations by Business Development Outlook Magazine in its September 2006 issue.

Charlotte County continues to reap accolades as it presses on with its own, unique approach to a healthy economic development.
